Graduate Opportunity – Health & Safety


Contract Type: Permanent (subject to successful completion of qualification)

Hours of work: 38 hours per week

Location: James Hall & Co, Bowland View, Preston, PR2 5QT

Salary: Competitive starting salary with structured increases upon successful completion of required qualifications.

About the Opportunity:

At James Hall & Co., we’re offering a unique and exciting opportunity for a graduate to join our Health & Safety Team and build a long-term career in a critical area of our business.

As a Graduate Trainee, you’ll gain hands-on experience across all areas of our diverse operations including Retail, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Head Office functions. You’ll learn how workplace safety is managed across multiple industries while working alongside experienced professionals while being fully supported to gain industry-recognised qualifications.

We welcome applications from a wide range of degree disciplines. Whether you’ve studied Business Management, Law, Environmental Science, Human Resources, Public Health and more, what matters most is your desire to learn and build a career in this important field.

Your permanent employment will be subject to the successful completion of the following fully funded qualifications:

  • IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH General Certificate – to be completed within first 12 months
  • NEBOSH Diploma – to commence upon receipt of General Certificate results, with full support and funding provided over a 12–18-month period

These industry-recognised qualifications will give you comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk management, hazard control, and how to foster a strong safety culture across varied working environments.

What to Expect to be Doing:

  • Support and carry out workplace inspections and risk assessments
  • Contribute to improving health and safety policies across the organisation
  • Help ensure legal compliance and keep up to date with current legislation
  • Assist with incident investigations and reporting
  • Gather and analyse safety data to support meaningful improvements
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions
  • Promote a positive safety culture by working closely with teams across the business
  • Receive ongoing mentoring and support from experienced H&S professionals

  • Commitment to undertaking relevant professional qualifications
