We are currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to support our Marine Engineering Department.

 

The Design Engineer will be based at the Expleo Preston office and will report directly to the Engineering Team Leader (ETL).

 

Working within the Design team in our Pipe Modules & jigs team, successful candidates will have experience in generating and checking engineering / design solutions, creating, managing and implementing change requests and supporting Design reviews. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a high-quality service to our client and will be expected to be proactive and self-motivated in delivering the targeted outputs to support the product build.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake all aspects of design work supporting the Pipe Modules team including:
    • 3D Scheming
    • 3D Design definition
    • 2D Drawing
    • Teamcenter input & interrogation
  • Check 3D Models and 2D outputs produced by other team members including Junior Engineers.
  • Supply specialist knowledge and technical guidance across the team on the design of Jigs.
  • Provide successful solutions to technical engineering problems and deliver instructions. guidance for other team members.
  • Ensure ‘Right First Time’ is met in-line with Marine Business KPI’s.
  • Create, manage and implement ‘Change requests’ where required.
  • Be involved with continuous improvement process & offer improvement suggestions.
  • Interfacing with external stakeholders to understand technical issues / specifications.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews (both internal and external) where required
  • Working in accordance with Expleo QMS and customer quality requirements.
  • Work in a team-based environment, have good written and verbal communication skills and be capable of making sound technical judgements and appropriate decisions.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a Degree / HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or an associated discipline

Essential skills

  • Proactive ‘Team Player’ with a focus on delivery and quality.
  • Good communicator who is professional during interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Happy to train and coach others.
  • Competencies required in this role will include: Decision Quality, Creativity, Technical Learning, Composure and Customer Focus.

Experience

  • Jig and tool design experience essential.
  • Previous checking experience required.
  • Marine Defence experience preferred.
  • Experience on FORAN preferred, or 3D CAD system such as Solidworks, Catia, NX.
  • Candidates will have a proven track record of delivering effective engineering solutions within cost, time and quality constraints.
